Pardon us while we totally freak out. At long last, the Dior vacancy left by John Galliano has been filled. By who? RAF SIMONS.

Cathy Horyn reports that Dior will make a formal announcement on Wednesday, though she spoke with Simons today. The house apparently began courting the designer in the fall; talks with Marc Jacobs fell through over the summer, and a slew of high profile candidates rebuffed Dior’s offers shortly thereafter. Horyn calls Simons a “logical” choice, though not an obvious one.

Simons was pushed out of his post at Jil Sander in February. Rumors about him going to Dior swirled before and after his departure, though Simons played coy. But finally, the man has some things to say about his new job:

“Of course I haven’t been in the archives yet, but for me the strongest impact is the first 10 years of Dior and how to link that to the 21st century. Mr. Dior was very innovative during a short time span. And it was in the middle of the 20th century, a period I am very interested in, whether it’s linked to fashion, architecture or art. So I find it very challenging to rethink couture. I’m not one of those people who would say, ‘Ah, couture makes no sense anymore because everything today should be accessible.’ Clearly there is an interest from people in this level of creativity.”

As for the pressure? “I’m someone who takes responsibility,” he said. We certainly can’t wait to see what exactly he does with this incredible opportunity.

UPDATE: WWD reports that Simons’s official title will be “artistic director of haute couture, women’s ready-to-wear, and accessories collections”, and that he will show his first collection during Paris Couture Week in July.

Axl Rose and Lana Del Rey were spotted together last night at Hollywood hotel Chateau Marmont. Naturally, this means they are a hot new couple.

We can only presume Rose called the 25-year-old singer up after seeing her cheeky new French Glamour cover. Either that or he has decided to make manifest the lyrics of a song she wrote while still going by the name Lizzy Grant called ”Axl Rose Husband”, whose lyrics include “You’re my one king daddy/ I’m your little queen.” Yeah, not weird at all.

In the early nineties 50-year-old Rose dated model Stephanie Seymour, who starred in Guns n’ Roses video for “November Rain”. Del Rey is somewhat of a fashion industry fixture herself these days, inspiring a Mulberry bag, covering T and British Vogue, and earning the mild approval of both Tavi Gevinson and Karl Lagerfeld.

Gucci‘s copyright infringement lawsuit against Guess just keeps dragging on.

Earlier this week, Guess’s CEO Paul Marciano testified in court that his company didn’t knock off Gucci’s designs, but merely drew “inspiration” from them. Yesterday Marciano was back in court to finish his testimony, and hilarity ensued.

According to WWD, this is what went down:

“This morning, at the courthouse, we saw the square G on a handbag,” an excited Marciano said, as his lawyers displayed a photo of what appeared to be a logoed Givenchy clutch.

Gucci’s lawyer looked flustered as the Guess team explained that they had snapped a photo of the purse of a woman they met that morning.

“We asked permission first,” said a Guess lawyer, replying to presiding Judge Shira Scheindlin’s inquiry of the photo’s origin.

“It’s a counterfeit,” said Gucci’s attorney, Louis Ederer of Arnold & Porter LLP, after inspecting the placement of the logos on the photo of the clutch.

“But we asked the lady,” Marciano said. “She said it was real.”

“Of course she told you that,” the judge said with a chuckle.

And then the case was adjourned until Monday.

Reese and her hubby are in Costa Rica this week and she is flaunting that belly (and those pregnant boobs) in cute but modest maternity swim wear. She is such a Southern girl. Love her.

Remember that even before Kim Kardashian fake-married Kris Humphries, it was always rumored that she was hooking up with Kanye West. He pretty much confirmed it in his new song Theraflu that dropped yesterday.

“And I’ll admit, I had fell in love with Kim / Around the time she had fell in love with him / Well that’s cool, baby girl, do your thing / Lucky I ain’t had Jay drop him from the team”.
Kanye’s BFF Jay-Z is a part-owner of the New Jersey Nets, which Kris plays for. What a huge threat!
While we’re sure Kim is humbled that Kanye wrote a song about her, it comes at an inconvenient time: she’s about to be tangled in a legal battle with Kris over their divorce, and this kind of publicity is not good for her. Furthermore, it seems to confirm reports that she was allegedly having an affair with Kanye DURING her marriage.

Add this to the whirlwind two days Kim and Kanye have had including going to see The Hunger Games together (which I can pretty much guarantee no grown man is going to unless there is a big booty pay off at the end of the night) and she was photographed doing the walk of shame leaving his house the next morning.

Thursday morning, TMZ.com published photos of Kardashian “leaving from the building where Kanye lives … wearing the same clothes she rocked to the movies last night.” Kardashian is scheduled to host NBC’s “Today” show Friday morning.

All of this begs the question, why didn’t Kim just fake-marry Kanye instead of all the drama and possible loss of her money to Kris Humphries? Because as annoying as he is…Kanye West ain’t stupid.

Not only did he dodge a Kardashian wedding bullet, he kept his money safe and now he gets to pick up the pieces of a rebounding Kardashian. Evil genius? Maybe.
